I started taking my french bulldog to Clovercroft Vet Hospital because it's close to home and appeared to be a nice facility. After taking my dog for his annual shots and exam he was prescribed frontline, a Knockout Flea spray for the house, and heart worm medicine. Me (not being a vet) did not realize a french bulldog isn't supposed to have topical flea medicine because of skin sensitivity in the breed. A week after his first dose of frontline he developed red, crusty spots all over his body (keep in mind this is a dog who gets a bath every week). After a few days of spots we decided to take him back. Dr. Phillips said, "The spots are stress induced and its normal for the breed." He gave him a steroid shot and oatmeal shampoo to help ease the skin problem. I thought it was weird a dog would have a skin reaction from stress when he's the most carefree dog I've ever has. This visit costed $225. A week later his spots were worse. They even developed a weird smell. So I took him back to Clovercroft again. Dr. Phillips looked concerned and took a skin sample- twenty minutes later he came back and said his skin infection has developed in "staph". He gave me Simplicef (antibiotic) to give him for 10 days. This visit costed $200. $425 later his spots haven't gone away. The smell from his red spots did but he kept developing more spots.I decided to take him to Williamson County Animal Hospital because I figured Dr. Phillips didn't know what was going on with him. The vet asked what was going on and in the middle of telling her. She said , "Your problem is French Bulldogs aren't supposed to have topical medicine" At the time I had NO IDEA. She prescribed our Frenchie Confortis (oral flea medicine), antihistamine, and an antibiotic that he took for a month. Within three days our frenchie was 99% better. I decided to get my money back for the unused Frontline, Knockout Flea Home Spray, and shampoo that wasn't good for his skin as well as the office visits where he missed diagnosed twice at my expense. I also wanted to let Dr. Phillips know that french bulldogs cannot have frontline. He couldn't come out to talk to me because he was busy with a patient. I was waiting to hear back from him and finally did. He mailed a letter to me that I wish could be posted on here. He refunded the $68 for frontline and home spray but at the end of the letter Dr. Phillips said, "I will not be refunding you for the office visit, or recheck exam. Your dog probably still has skin problems. I correctly diagnosed and recommended appropriate treatment; which you didn't follow noted by return of unused product." This letter is signed and dated by Dr. Jim Phillips. I couldn't believe this man wrote a letter like this. Everyone is human and everyone makes mistakes. I dont care who you are- but Dr. Phillips is very arrogant and cant admit when hes wrong. Even if he didn't refund the money he could have told me he doesn't know a lot about the breed. I would have understood. I learned two lessons: 1. French bulldogs cannot have topical skin medicine 2. NEVER take your dog to Clovercroft Vet. Dr. Phillips is unprofessional, uneducated, and arrogant
